It is a soft slate with rustic brown natural face coupled with undertones of light grey and soft yellow. It is metamorphic, around 400 million years old and splits very easily making it easy to work with.

Cornish Blue Sawn is a fine grained, hard, metamorphic slate, that is consistently blue grey in colour; making it suitable for both contemporary new build construction and also traditional restorations. Due to its hardness and lack of iron pyrite deposits, Cornish blue will retain its colour and not suffer from oxidation and weathering to buff / yellow tones like many softer slates do. It is sawn both sides, varied course heights and can be supplied supplied sawn or rag ended, depending on availability. Its consistent grain allows for easy splitting, and suits both horizontal and cleaved installation.
